Madeleine Korbel Albright

In 1939, the Albrights and their two-year old Madeleine Korbel Albright (1937 – ) had to flee their country, the then Czechoslovakia, to England due to Nazi occupation. The family spent years in the United Kingdom during the war. They returned to Prague but for a short time only. The political conditions forced them out again in 1948. Madeleine and her family were granted asylum in the United States.

Madeleine Albright schooled in the United States and went on to earn a doctorate degree from Columbia University. Her achievements include: she was a lecturer in International Relations at Georgetown University; President George Bush appointed her as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations; President Clinton made her the first female to hold the position of the U.S. Secretary of State.
